Elm Cottage is in a quiet location on the edge of Falkirk, and close to the Falkirk Wheel
The Falkirk Wheel, in, unsurprisingly, Falkirk, near to Stirling, is a surprisingly good day out. For those unfamiliar with the delights of the Falkirk Wheel, this is essentially a canal lock on the Union Canal. Although describing the Falkirk Wheel as only a "lock" makes it sound a little dull. The Falkirk Wheel is the only rotary lock of its kind in the world - which makes it seem a little more exciting. This place isn't just for canal based geeks though, there are an awful lot of things to see and try. On a recent visit we were shocked just how much was going on. You can go on a boat trip round the wheel and through the Rough Castle Tunnel; or try some of the attractions of the water park (the Archimedes Screw was one of our favourites); or go for a Segway tour; or cycle along the tow path; or go in the pedalos. So the Falkirk Wheel is ideal for the canal anorak, and for his (because let's face it, it will be a bloke) family. You can see some more photos of the Falkirk Wheel
, including one of the Archimedes Screw.
If you're keen on visiting the Falkirk Wheel, and, may I ask, why wouldn't you be? You'll be wanting somewhere to stay. The cottage I'd really like to recommend is "Elm Cottage". The location is pefect for visiting the Falkirk Wheel....

More about Elm Cottage in Falkirk
Now, I said that Elm Cottage was in a perfect location for visiting the Falkirk Wheel, which are very strong words. However, if you take a look at the Google Maps route
you'll see exactly what I mean. Google shows that Elm Cottage is only 1.6 miles along the tow path to the Falkirk Wheel. You can't get much better than that; walking is a cinch, or cycle along the tow paths in this part of Scotland. What could be better? There is no walking or cycling along the roads, and at the end of your journey you'll pop out of the Rough Castle Tunnel at the top of the Falkirk Wheel. The photo below shows you the Rough Castle Tunnel (it's not too long, so don't worry).

. This really is a good spot for a holiday - I've focused on the Falkirk Wheel (blinckin' loved it), but there's the city of Falkirk too - which, indecently, is an easy cycle or walk, just 2 miles along the tow path in the other direction to the Falkirk Wheel! And the wide open space to drink in too.
I think that's probably enough from me, just have a good time on your holiday.
